Greetings in the name and love of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
I am pleased to announce that the AMAA is organizing an Internship Program (July 5-19, 2016) to Armenia. This Program intends to give young adults from the United States, Canada, Europe and Middle East with an excellent opportunity to serve our people in Armenia with missions and ministries supported by the AMAA. The Program is designed to be a time for spiritual growth, a hands-on, practical ministry experience, as the interns participate in the missional work that the AMAA does in Armenia.
The Program is for young adults entering their senior year of high school to post-college age (mid-twenties). The major work will focus on spending time participating in day camps, summer camps, worship concerts, church programs and visitations. Also, the interns will travel together to significant historical and cultural sites.
I am asking you to help identify young adults, who may be interested in and can benefit from this Program, whose personal faith in Jesus motivates them to serve and work with others, and have a desire to grow in their Armenian heritage.
I will lead and head the Program, and also lead the interns in daily Bible study, discussion and prayer.
The cost of this Program will primarily be transportation costs (airfare), which might be approximately $1400-1600 for those who are traveling from North America, and less for those who are flying from other countries. It also depends on when the interns purchase their tickets. The interns are responsible to raise the funds of their tickets, passport, visa and their pocket money ($200). The AMAA will be responsible of the local expenses (food, housing and transportation in Armenia).
Time is of the essence. So, I kindly ask you to make a special effort to give these materials to prospective participants as soon as you can, announce and publicize the Program in your Sunday services, newsletters and electronic communications. The application deadline is March 11, 2016. I appreciate every assistance you can offer making this Program beneficial and meaningful.
Candidates will be selected on a first come first served basis. Those who are accepted into the Program, will receive notification by March 31, along with further information and instructions that will help prepare for this wonderful experience. Please, keep this Program in your prayers hoping that God will draw our young people closer to Him and inspire them with a lifelong vision and commitment to ministry in Jesus’ name.

Today, on Sunday, January 17th, in the early afternoon, right after the Youth Group ended its program following Sunday church service, a mortar shell hit the roof of the Armenian Evangelical Emmanuel Church of Aleppo, causing serious structural damage. Thank God there were no casualties or injuries.

The Armenian Evangelical Emmanuel Church of Aleppo, Syria is one of the oldest Armenian Evangelical Churches, established in 1852 (in the old city), soon after the Armenian Evangelical Movement in 1846.  The current church building was erected in 1923.

AMAA Supports the First Armenian Evangelical Church of Montreal in their Efforts to Help Syrian Refugees

Ever since the start of the crisis in Syria, many Armenian families have fled to Lebanon and other countries to avoid the atrocities of the ongoing war. Several of these families have applied for immigration to Canada. The First Armenian Evangelical Church of Montreal  is collaborating with the “Hay Doun” organization in conjunction with the Canadian Government to obtain immigration rights for Syrian refugees. To date, 800 such families have arrived in Montreal, and another 800 is expected to arrive in the coming months at an approximate rate of 150 families per month.

In most cases, these families have spent most of their finances for their travel to Lebanon and other countries, and by the time they have arrived in Montreal they are left almost with hardly any financial resources.  Some refugees have relatives in Canada that greet them, provide for them and ultimately help them to integrate.  The First Armenian Evangelical Church of Montreal has been helping those families which have no local relatives. The Church welcomes them; offers moral, spiritual and psychological support; provides temporary housing in the Church complex or at homes of families within the Church and the Armenian community at large; pays for hotel rooms; orients the families to integrate in the city life, such as administrative support, transportation, schooling, learning the language, finding jobs, helps them to find affordable housing and in some cases provides the rent of initial months; and provides all kinds of basic furnishing and warm clothing.

The garage and some of the other rooms of the Church have been converted to storage rooms for food, clothing and furniture. Many local families have been contributing financially, providing material goods or volunteering their time to help their Syrian kin. The Armenian Missionary Association of America is also assisting the Church financially to continue this ministry.

The Church needs our prayers and continued support for this ministry in order to continue touching the lives of these refugees, not only to meet their physical needs, but uplift their spirits through the light of the Gospel.

AMAA Congratulates Board Member Dr. Ann R. Karagozian (Sarafian)

We would like to extend our sincerest congratulations to AMAA Board Member, Dr. Ann Karagozian, on her appointment as UCLA’s Interim Chancellor for Research.  We wish Dr. Karagozian continued success in carrying out her new responsibilities.

Ann Karagozian, a mechanical and aerospace engineering Professor at the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science will serve as UCLA’s Interim Vice Chancellor for Research. She will assume this position immediately, said Scott Waugh, the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost.

Ann Karagozian has been a faculty member of UCLA since 1982. She serves as head of UCLA’s Energy and Propulsion Research Laboratory, which focuses on energy research and education. She also acts as Director of the Collaborative Center for Aerospace Sciences, a collaboration between the Air Force Research Laboratory and UCLA that focuses on aerospace systems research. Previously, Ann has served as the Chair of the Academic Senate and the Faculty Executive Committee.

Ann Karagozian received her Ph.D. and M.S. in mechanical engineering from the California Institute of Technology and a B.S. summa cum laude in Engineering from UCLA. She is the recipient of many honors, including the Air Force Decoration for Exceptional Civilian Service (2001 and 2010), UCLA MAE Department Award for Outstanding Teaching (2009) and TRW-UCLA Excellence in Teaching Award (1987). She is a fellow of the American Physical Society, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and she has delivered numerous distinguished lectures at conferences and universities worldwide.

Տարի մը եւս կը յանձնենք պատմութեան յորձանուտին: Իւրայատուկ տարի մը արդարեւ, Հարիւրամեակ՝ ցեղասպանութեան: Վիշտի եւ հրաշքի յուշարար տարի մը: Վիշտ եւ հրաշք քրքրող տարի մը: Եւ արդարօրէն, Թէքէեանի օրինակով, ոչ միայն կարելի է այլ նաեւ անհրաժեշտ որ հաւաքաբար հարց տանք:
Հաշույարդար. Ի՞նչ մնաց, հարիւրամեակէն մեզի ի՞նչ մնաց:
Յետադարձ ակնարկ մը բաւարար է հաստատելու թէ տքնաջան եւ նուիրական համագաղութային աշխատանքի մը ականատես եղանք ամէնուրէք եւ անարդար չէ յաւակնիլ թէ ազգովին նուաճեցինք փոքր յաղթանակներ եւ խլեցինք շարք մը թափնեպսակներ: Հարիւրամեակը, մեր ազգային պայքարը բարձրացուց համաշխարհային գիտակցութեան, յարգանքի եւ ճանաչողութեան յարաբերական աննախընթաց բարձրավանդակի մը, որ արժանի էր հարցի էութեան եւ լրջութեան, եւ ազդու իր տարողութեամբ:

Ճանապարհը երկար է եւ փշոտ: Արգելքներն ու խոչընդոտները անպակաս: Կը թուի սակայն, թէ մեր հաւաքական կամքը անկոտրում է եւ վճռակամութիւնը՝ հաստատ: Մեր անսասան հաւատքը մեր արդար դատի պայքարի ճանապարհին կը շարունակէ մնալ անխախտ: Հաւատքը՝ կը շարունակէ մնալ արդարութեան ձգտումին եւ ճշմարտութեան բացարձակ ճառագայթումի մեր ապաւէնը: Չենք կրնար սակայն ձեռնածալ մնալ եւ մի քանի յաղթանակներու գինովութեամբ հարբիլ: Պայքարը շարունակել է պէտք: Անդարում:
Արդարութեան եւ հատուցումի ճանապարհին վրայ, մեր երազներու եւ պահանջքներու ովկիանոսին մէջ, լուրջ եւ գիտակից իրատեսութեան անհրաժեշտութիւնը կայ: Հակառակ կտրուած մղոններուն եւ տարուած յաղթանակներուն շատ հեռու ենք տակաւին երկաթէ շերեփի իւրացումէն եւ պայքարի ճանապարհին անոր գործածութեան կիրակումէն: Ցեղասպանութիւնը եւ անոր հոգեբանական բոլոր ազդեցութիւնները մեր սերունդի ազգային եւ հաւաքական էութեան մէկ մասնիկն են: Զայն կը շնջենք եւ կ՚ապրինք ամէն օր որ Աստուած կը շարունակէ կեանք շնորհել մեզի: Այստեղ արդէն, մենք արթնութեան կարօտը եւ պարտադրանքը ունինք եւ անոր ճնշումը կը զգանք:
Ժամանակներու եւ պայմաններու հրամայականի տակ մեր առաջադրանքները, մեր կեդրոնացումները եւ առաջնահերթութիւնները յարափոփոխ ըլլալու կարօտ եւ արժանի են: Ցեղասպանութեան հոգեբանութիւնը չի կրնար մեր հաւաքական կեանքի շուրջօրեայ առանցքը ըլլալ եւ պէտք չէ ըլլայ: Եւ մինչեւ այն օրը երբ երկրագունդի վրայ գտնուող հայկական հաւաքականութիւնը տիրանայ երկաթէ շերեփին, մեր ուշադրութիւնը հարկ է կեդրոնացնել հետեւեալ երեք անյետաձգելի իրավիճակներուն կամ իրականութիւններուն վրայ եւ տալ անոնցմէ ամէն մէկուն մեր էութիւնէն իր արժանի բաժինը:

Ա. ՀԱՅՐԵՆԻՔ
2015 ին մեր հայրենիքը կը բոլորէ իր անկախութեան քսանհինգ ամեակը: Հակառակ բոլոր յառաջդիմութեան, հակառակ բոլոր մարդկային եւ նիւթական զոհողութիւններուն, հակառակ բոլոր երազներուն եւ տեսիլքին, այսօր մեր հայրենիքը հոն չէ ուր մենք հաւաքաբար կ՚ուզէինք որ ըլլար: Կասկած չկայ թէ Արցախեան ազատագրական պայքարը եւ պատմական յաղթանակը, դարերէ իվեր մեզի զլացուած եւ միայն երազուած հպարտութիւն առթող իրականութիւնն է: Փառք եւ պատիւ Արցախեան հերոսամարտը իրենց արիւնով եւ կեանքով կերտած բոլոր ազատամարտիկներուն: Հոն իսկ սակայն տակաւին խարսխուած չէ յաղթանակը եւ թշնամին ամէն օր իր վայրագ թափանցումներով նոր կեանք կը հնձէ ճակատներու վրայ:
Ընկերային եւ տնտեսական ապահովութիւնը անբաւարար մակարդակի վրայ է իսկ արդարութեան նշաձողը անընդունելիօրէն ցած: Հայաթափումը կը շարունակուի իսկ «դէպի երկիր» լոզունգը կը մնայ անլսելիօրէն ղօղանջելի:
Հայրենիքը տակաւին հեռու կը մնայ ինքնաբաւ, ինքնանկախ, եւ աճող ըլլալէ: Այս կացութեան մէջ գտնուող հայրենիքը անտարակոյս կը կարօտի մեր բոլորի լուսարձակին տակ ըլլալու անհրաժեշտութեան: Բոլորս պատասխանատու ենք այս վիճակին եւ բոլորիս պատասխանատուութիւնն է ամէն գնով տքնիլ եւ ճգնիլ այս վիճակէն դուրս գալու համար:
Հայրենիքը եւ մեր հայրենի ժողովուրդը կը մնան մեր ուշադրութեան եւ հոգածութեան առաջնահերթութեան գագաթին:

Բ. ՍՓԻՒՌՔ
Դարաւոր պատմութեան ճնշող վայրագ պայմաններու ծնունդ հայկական Սփիւռքը՝ անհայրենիք մասնիկն է աշխարհով տարտղնուած հայ ժողովուրդին: Ցեղասպանութենէն ետք հսկայածաւալօրէն տարածուած հայ Սփիւռքը, հայրենիքի անկախութենէն ետք կ’ակնկալուէր նօսրանալ եւ փոքրանալ: Դժբախտ իրականութիւնը սակայն հակառակը ապացուցեց եւ Սփիւռքը հայրենիքի հաշւոյն …..ուռճացաւ: Պատճառներու ուսումնասիրութեան տեղը չէ այստեղ: Կը բաւէ գիտակցիլ իրականութեան եւ անդրադառնալ հսկայածաւալ Սփիւռքի կարեւորութեան, թէ ազգապահպանման եւ գոյատեւումի ոլորտին մէջ եւ թէ հայրենիքի օժանդակութեան սրբազան պարտաւորութեան ծիրէն ներս:
Առ այդ բնական եզրակացութիւն է ուրեմն թէ պարտաւորիչ է ունենալ առողջ Սփիւռք մը: Այսօրուայ իրականութեան ցոլացումը սակայն տարբեր բան ցոյց կու տայ:
Տասնամեակներէ իվեր հայրենամերձ ազգային ամենաբեղուն աշխատանք տանող, կենսունակ եւ գործունեայ, մշակութային փեթակ հանդիսացող Միջին Արեւելեան գաղութները կը շարունակուին քայքայուիլ: Սուրիական հայրենիքի Մայր գաղութը վերջին զոհն է այս ողբալի իրականութեան: Կուրութիւն եւ կարճատեսութիւն է չանդրադառնալ այս իրականութեան եւ ափսոսանքով պէտք է հաստատել թէ մեր ազգային ղեկավարութեան գագաթին բազմած շատեր գիտակցութեան այդ խաբկանքը կ՚ապրին:
Սփիւռքի պարագային, գուցէ մենք պատասխանատու չենք քաղաքական եւ պատերազմական այն վիճակին եւ սակայն բոլորիս հաւաքական պատասխանատուութիւնն է ամէն գնով տքնիլ եւ ճգնիլ փրկելու համար ամէն հրկիզուող սփիւռքահայ գաղութ յօգուտ Սփիւռքի եւ հայրենիքի:
Սփիւռքը եւ Սփիւռքահայը նաեւ հարկ է որ մնան մեր ուշադրութեան եւ հոգածութեան գագաթին, հայրենիքի կողքին:

Գ. ՆՈՐ ՍԵՐՈՒՆԴ
Իսկ այստեղ արդէն կը միանան Սփիւռքն ու հայրենիքը:
Ցեղասպանութեան հարիւրամեակի վերջին օրերը կ’ապրինք: Բայց պէտք է հպարտութեամբ եւ խորին գոհունակութեամբ արտայայտուիլ թէ հարիւրամեակը եկաւ հաստատել մեր անսասան վստահութիւնը երիտասարդ նոր սերունդին վրայ որոնք ազգին ճակատը բարձր պահեցին իրենց հետաքրքրութիւններով, նուաճումներով, ստեղծագործութեամբ, ազգային գիտակցութեան եւ պատասխանատուութեան ոգիով: Մտային սեւեռում մը երկրագունդի շուրջ կու գայ պատկերացնելու թէ երբէք մեր ազգային պատմութեան ընթացքին չէ եղած այնպիսի ժամանակ մը երբ մենք ունեցած ըլլանք այսօրուայ խոստումին նման բանակ մը համալսարանական կամ համալսարանաւարտ սերունդ, որոնք պիտի կազմեն գիտնականներու, մասնագէտներու, կրթական եւ հանրային գործիչներու, իրաւաբաններու եւ օրէնսդիրներու, գիտութեան եւ արուեստի բնագաւառներու մէջ փայլող խոստմնալից աստղերու ապագայ գումարտակներ:
Մեր հաւաքական պարտականութիւնն է փայփայել եւ գուրգուրալ այս եւ յաջորդող սերունդներուն վրայ, օրինակելի առաջնորդութեամբ, որոնք՝ «եւ հաւատայ, կրանիթեայ ո՜վ աստուած» օր մը պիտի դառնան երկաթէ մեր շերեփները:
